Is it okay for coaches to be rich? The question you have to ask yourself is this, do you believe in what you do? Do you believe the value that you provide to your clients? Do you believe you truly sell a good quality product, service, or program? And if you do, you do believe it, then it is your obligation, it is your duty, it is your responsibility to make a profit.
I’m going to read a chapter for my book, F.U. Money, here. And I wrote it so many years ago, but it answers this particular question. Page 14, if you go to the business section of bookstores and libraries, the shelves are packed with all kinds of business and success books. Endless rows of personal development and self-help books. Most of these books are a complete waste of your time and money. The first set of books is the touchy, feely, new age, prosperity type stuff in the self-help section.
The thing is if you were to actually meet and get to know these so-called prosperity gurus in-person, you will find out they have no money. They are poor. They don’t have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. So how the hell can they teach you about prosperity when they have no prosperity themselves? Oh, but you might say, “Dan, they are rich spiritually.” Yeah, right. That’s nothing but a lame ass excuse for the prosperity gurus to justify their lack of wealth. To me, true prosperity means being rich in all areas of your life. That includes your home, love life, family, health, friends, fun, and yes, money. Lots of money.
So the way that I view money, it’s very different from how most people view money. I view money as a little thank you note. So imagine this, your clients, they appreciate you, they adore you, and they send you thank you cards. Would you reject them? Would you say, “No, no, no, I don’t want that.” Now, if you imagine the dollars they spend with you, these are just little thank you notes. This is how they demonstrate their appreciation for your programs, for your value, for your products, for your services. Why would you turn that away? Wouldn’t you want as many thank you cards as possible? Why would you turn that away? Why would you have any hesitation when it comes to making a profit? It’s not just necessary to make a profit, it’s noble to make a profit as a coach, as a consultant, as an expert. In fact, your focus should be to maximize your profits because your clients, they send you a little thank you note when you provide value. When you truly provide a lot of value, they send you a lot of these, a lot of money.
That’s how the world works. These are little thank you notes. Nothing more. Don’t get too hung up on it. It is not greedy. It has nothing to do with greed. You cannot make millions without impacting millions, or you impact a selective group in a very profound way that is worth millions of dollars of value to them. That is the only way to do it. So if you are a good coach, you should make six figure. If you’re a great coach, you should make seven figure. If you are a world-class coach, you should make eight figure. My goal, my vision is to be a billionaire coach because that tells me that I’m impacting billions of people. That’s how you should look at it. So it’s not just okay to be rich for coaches. This is a measurement. This is a representation of the actual impact that you’re making in this world. Until then, go high ticket.
